Kentucky has named Pete Nochta the new general manager of its football program, the school announced Wednesday. The move comes just one day after Pat Biondo revealed that he was leaving the position only a few months after being hired.
Nochta originally joined new Kentucky head coach Will Stein’s staff last December as an assistant general manager, with Biondo being brought in at the same time. Following Biondo’s departure, Nochta has now moved into the program’s top personnel role.
“Pete has been a key contributor to the strong start our football program has made,” athletic director J. Batt, who also serves as CEO of Champions Blue, said. “He has helped build a strong foundation in recruiting, roster management and player evaluation, and we’re excited for him to take on this role.”
In his new position, Nochta will oversee Kentucky’s personnel operations, including roster management and player evaluation. He brings extensive recruiting experience to the job after spending 10 seasons at Louisville, where he served as the Cardinals’ director of recruiting for the past four years.
Nochta began his coaching career at Purdue, working as a quality control coach and graduate assistant in 2011 and 2012. He then held a similar role at Western Kentucky in 2013 before eventually spending a decade with Louisville.
Stein and Nochta also have a history together, having played alongside each other at Louisville. Stein said Nochta’s work since joining Kentucky made him an obvious choice for the promotion.
“Pete has outstanding relationships throughout college football, a great eye for talent and a deep understanding of what we’re building here,” Stein said. “I’m excited to see him step into this role and continue helping us build a championship-caliber program.”
