Manchester City have been found guilty of 114 of the 115 charges brought against the club following a lengthy investigation into alleged breaches of the Premier League’s financial regulations.The independent commission’s findings relate primarily to the period between the 2009–10 and 2017–18 seasons, with the case involving allegations concerning the accuracy of financial information, player and manager remuneration, UEFA financial regulations, Premier League profitability and sustainability rules, and cooperation with the League’s investigation.
One particularly significant part of the ruling concerns Manchester City’s alleged failure to cooperate with the Premier League’s investigation. The original case included 35 charges relating to non-cooperation between 2018 and 2023.
The verdict follows years of legal proceedings after the Premier League referred City to an independent commission in February 2023. The hearing itself took place during 2024 before the commission reached its decision.
However, the case is not yet finished. No final sporting sanction has been announced, and Manchester City have maintained their denial of wrongdoing. The club has indicated that it intends to challenge the findings through the appeal process.
Potential consequences have been widely discussed, including financial penalties and sporting sanctions, but no specific punishment should be presented as confirmed until the appropriate process is completed.
The verdict therefore represents another major chapter in one of the most significant financial-regulation cases in Premier League history, with Manchester City now facing an appeal while supporters, rival clubs and the wider football community await the next stage of the proceedings.
