Kansas State women’s basketball has strengthened its frontcourt for the 2026-27 season with the signing of Tzoana Tampakou, a 6-foot-5 center from Greece, head coach Jeff Mittie announced.
Mittie praised the newest Wildcat for her size and skill set, describing Tampakou as a traditional post player with polished finishing ability around the rim using either hand. He also highlighted her effectiveness in pick-and-roll situations and her understanding of high-low offensive concepts, qualities expected to make an immediate impact in the Wildcats’ frontcourt.
Tampakou arrives in Manhattan after representing Greece in multiple international competitions. At the 2025 FIBA U20 Women’s EuroBasket Division B, she averaged 6.0 points and 7.3 rebounds per game while shooting 50 percent from the field over seven contests. Her rebounding performance ranked among the tournament’s best, finishing 11th overall.
She closed the tournament with one of her strongest performances, recording a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds while also contributing three assists in Greece’s matchup against Slovakia.
The Greek center also competed in the 2024 FIBA U20 Women’s EuroBasket Division B, where she averaged 5.0 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.0 assist in limited action.
Earlier in her international career, Tampakou helped Greece capture a third-place finish at the 2023 FIBA U18 European Championship Division B, continuing to build valuable experience on the international stage.
Her addition further expands the Wildcats’ international presence. The 2026-27 roster will feature players representing six different countries: the United States, Belgium, France, Greece, Slovenia, and Spain.
Kansas State also returns a strong core from last season, with seven returning letterwinners accounting for 74 percent of the team’s assists, 55 percent of its scoring, and 52 percent of its rebounds. The combination of experienced returners and international additions is expected to strengthen the Wildcats as they prepare for the upcoming campaign.
