West Indies cricket star Nicholas Pooran has become the centre of attention following fresh discussions about his possible return to international cricket.

According to a report published by the Jamaica Observer on November 5, 2026, former West Indies bowlers Daren Powell and Nehemiah Perry have expressed their willingness to see the talented Trinidadian batter return to represent the Caribbean team.

Pooran, widely recognised for his explosive batting ability, surprised cricket supporters in June 2025 when he announced his retirement from international cricket at just 29 years old.

His retirement marked the end of an important chapter in West Indies cricket. During his international career, he represented the team in 167 matches, becoming one of the most influential players of his generation.

His achievements in Twenty20 International cricket remain particularly impressive. Pooran scored 2,275 runs in 106 T20I appearances, making him West Indies’ leading run-scorer in the format at the time of his retirement.

However, fresh developments have generated renewed excitement among supporters.

At the opening of his Nicky P Batting Academy in Trinidad, Pooran reportedly indicated that he had not completely closed the door on representing West Indies again.

His comments have encouraged discussions about what his return could mean for the national team.

Former fast bowler Daren Powell believes Pooran remains an important asset to Caribbean cricket because of his experience, talent and ability to change matches with his batting.

Meanwhile, Nehemiah Perry has stressed that any potential return should involve a clear understanding between Pooran and Cricket West Indies.

Beyond international cricket, Pooran continues to participate in major franchise competitions. He has also been announced as captain and icon player of the Royal Desert Champions ahead of the 2026 Abu Dhabi T10 tournament.
