The Atlanta Braves have made an intriguing move within their minor-league system, promoting 26-year-old right-hander Brett Sears to Triple-A Gwinnett.
According to the Braves’ minor-league transaction tracker, Sears was assigned to the Gwinnett Stripers from Double-A Columbus on Tuesday, August 25. The move comes as Atlanta prepares for the final stretch of the regular season and continues to evaluate its pitching depth.
Sears Earns Another Look at Triple-A
Sears has quietly put together an impressive 2026 campaign. Across 101.1 innings in the minors this season, the right-hander owns a 3.11 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 123 strikeouts.
Those numbers have helped Sears move steadily through the Braves’ system since the organization selected him in the seventh round of the 2024 MLB Draft. In 222 minor-league innings during his professional career, he has recorded a 3.41 ERA with 251 strikeouts.
The promotion is not entirely unfamiliar territory for Sears. He has already spent a brief period with Gwinnett this season, throwing three innings without allowing an earned run.
Now, he gets another opportunity to prove that he can handle Triple-A hitters and potentially put himself in position for a future call-up to Atlanta.
A Significant Opportunity
The timing of Sears’ promotion is particularly interesting.
The Braves are in the middle of a crucial stretch of the season and entered Wednesday with a 77-55 record. Atlanta also opened its three-game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers with a dramatic 4-3 victory, maintaining a 4.5-game lead in the National League East.
With the postseason approaching, pitching depth can become increasingly important. Injuries, workload management and unexpected performance issues can force contenders to reach deeper into their organizations, making players such as Sears valuable insurance.
His latest promotion could therefore be viewed as more than just another minor-league transaction. It gives the Braves another promising arm operating at the highest level of their farm system.

Sears’ rise is also another example of Atlanta continuing to develop pitching internally.
