Excitement continues to surround Newcastle United and its legendary former striker Alan Shearer, whose name remains deeply connected with the club and its supporters.Shearer is widely regarded as one of Newcastle United’s greatest-ever players. The club records that the local-born striker scored an extraordinary 206 goals for Newcastle United, while he also remains the Premier League’s all-time leading goalscorer.
However, despite speculation surrounding a possible return to the club in a major capacity, there is currently no official confirmation that Shearer has become a co-owner of Newcastle United.
Newcastle United’s current corporate information states that the club is owned by an investment group led by the Public Investment Fund (PIF) and RB Sports & Media, whose ultimate beneficial owner is Jamie Reuben.
The ownership structure was changed in 2024, when PIF and RB Sports & Media acquired Amanda Staveley’s shareholding. Newcastle stated that PIF would control approximately 85% of the club, with RB Sports & Media holding the remaining 15%.
Shearer’s connection with the Magpies, however, remains significant. His legendary status continues to be celebrated by the club, and his name is permanently associated with one of the most successful goalscoring careers in Newcastle’s history.
For Newcastle supporters, any genuine announcement involving Shearer taking an ownership or senior leadership position would represent a major development. At present, though, such an announcement has not been officially confirmed by Newcastle United.
Fans should therefore treat social-media posts claiming that Shearer has already become a Newcastle co-owner with caution until the club itself or another authoritative source confirms the news.
