  1. Newcastle United have officially completed the signing of Czech Republic international goalkeeper Lukáš Horníček from Portuguese side SC Braga.

The 24-year-old goalkeeper has signed a five-year contract with the Magpies, keeping him at St James’ Park until 2031. Newcastle activated his reported €30 million (£25.7 million) release clause to secure his services.

Horníček arrives on Tyneside after an impressive spell with Braga, where he established himself as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper. During the 2025/26 season, he helped Braga finish fourth in the Portuguese top flight and kept 12 clean sheets, while also playing a key role in their run to the UEFA Europa League semi-finals.

Newcastle Sporting Director Ross Wilson praised the goalkeeper’s development, saying Horníček had firmly established himself among Europe’s promising young goalkeepers.

Horníček himself expressed his excitement about moving to England, describing the transfer as a brilliant opportunity and saying he cannot wait to play in front of Newcastle supporters at St James’ Park.
