Kevin Gausman’s move to the Chicago Cubs has given the veteran pitcher and his family a new chapter, but his wife’s latest social media post offered another glimpse into how quickly life has changed since the blockbuster trade.
Gausman was acquired by the Cubs from the Toronto Blue Jays earlier this month as Chicago looked to strengthen its starting rotation for the stretch run. Toronto received prospects Brett Bateman and Ty Southisene in the deal.
The veteran right-hander has already made an impact in Chicago. In his first start for the Cubs, Gausman delivered seven strong innings against the Kansas City Royals, allowing two runs and helping his new team secure a 6-4 victory.
But while Gausman has been focused on adjusting to his new surroundings on the field, his family has also been navigating a major transition.
Taylor Gausman Shares Six-Word Message
On Sunday, Taylor Gausman shared a collection of photos on Instagram documenting some of the family’s recent moments.
Her caption was short but perfectly captured the whirlwind surrounding the family’s move:
“photo dump because life’s been wild 🙃”
The six-word post quickly attracted thousands of likes and generated plenty of reactions from Blue Jays fans who clearly have not forgotten the Gausman family after five seasons in Toronto.
Several fans expressed how much they miss the family in Toronto while also wishing them well as they begin their new life in Chicago.
That reaction was hardly surprising. Gausman became a major part of the Blue Jays’ organization after signing with Toronto in 2021 and developed a strong connection with the city and its fans.
A Difficult Change for the Gausman Family
The trade represented more than simply a baseball transaction.
Gausman and Taylor had built their lives in Toronto, and the veteran pitcher acknowledged just how meaningful his time with the Blue Jays had become. After his final appearance for Toronto, he received a standing ovation from the home crowd and was visibly emotional as he left the field.
Taylor also shared an emotional farewell message shortly after the trade, underscoring how difficult it was for the family to leave a place that had become home.
Now, however, the Gausmans are beginning to settle into Chicago.
Gausman Has Quickly Become Important to the Cubs
For Chicago, the timing of the trade could prove significant.
The Cubs entered August looking to strengthen their rotation for a postseason push, and Gausman was one of the most notable additions made at the trade deadline. Chicago also added Clay Holmes, Tyrone Taylor and other pitching help as the organization attempted to improve both its rotation and bullpen.
The Cubs currently sit in the middle of a competitive National League race, making every start from their veteran acquisition increasingly important.
After a difficult weekend against the St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago begins a three-game series against the crosstown White Sox on Monday.
For Gausman and his family, meanwhile, the adjustment to Chicago continues.
Taylor’s simple six-word message may have been casual, but it captured the reality of the last few weeks: a sudden trade, an emotional goodbye to Toronto, a new city and a new team—all happening in the middle of a pennant race.
