Coventry City striker Taiwo Awoniyi has been suspended following his dismissal during Coventry City’s Premier League clash with Brighton & Hove Albion on September 13, 2026.Awoniyi was shown a straight red card in the 53rd minute after an elbow on Brighton defender Maxim De Cuyper. The Premier League’s VAR review confirmed the referee’s decision for violent conduct.
The dismissal came during a difficult afternoon for Coventry, who suffered a 5–0 defeat and remained without a Premier League goal after their opening four matches.
As a result of the suspension, Awoniyi was unavailable for Coventry’s Premier League meeting with Nottingham Forest on September 19. The latest team-news reports list him among Coventry’s suspended players.
There is currently no reliable report confirming that Awoniyi tested positive for a banned substance. The confirmed reason for his suspension is the red card he received against Brighton.
